Lab Report Writing

References Section

The References section, sometimes called Literature Cited, is where you will list all of the sources you used in researching your topic. Properly documenting sources used for research is important because it ensures that:

  • Credit for information originally provided elsewhere is given
  • Others can find the same information again
  • Plagiarism (passing off the ideas or words of another as one's own) doesn't occur.

The Phoenix College Biology Department uses the Council of Science Editors (CSE) style as a guide to how to cite sources. Examples of how to properly cite your sources using CSE style are available from the Phoenix College Library Citing Help webpage.
