Searching for items in the Library

Use the Library Catalog to search for Books and DVDs at PC Library - although the library is closed due to Covid,  you can still pick up items at the library!

  • You can search at PC or all Maricopa Community College Libraries.
  • Once you find an item you want, click the place hold button.
  • You will be notified when your item is available for pickup at the library (be sure to bring your student ID)

Books and Media at PC Library are shelved according to the Library of Congress Classification System

  • Call numbers are located on the spine of the book
  • Read call numbers from left to right or top to bottom
  • Books are arranged by subject, which makes it easy to browse!

Subject Headings in the Library Catalog

What are Subject Headings?

  • Subject headings are a set of terms or phrases that classify library materials. 
  • They are helpful it that they can lead you to all the materials the library has on a given subject. 
  • Most library catalogs and databases use subject headings.

You can find subject headings in the library catalog:

  • Search for an item in the library catalog
  • Click on the subject terms link(s) to be taken to a list of library materials related to the subject heading
