Integrated Reading and Writing

Project, Part 4

Reflection Response

PURPOSE: Now that you have completed this project, reflect on what you have learned throughout the researching process, including how authority is constructed and evaluated. An important aspect of writing is that writing is a social activity.  Through this project, you explored “research as a conversation” emphasizing how writing is often created to meet various needs and to create knowledge.

TASK: Write a reflective essay of 600 words minimum in APA format. Please use the questions below as a guide. You do not have to respond to all of them but your essay should contain a reflection on at least three of the main ideas from the questions below.

  • Writing is often created to meet various needs. What social needs did you seek to meet as you worked on this project? Why and/or how did you decide which topic to research?

  • When you were researching and writing? What is your personal connection to these social needs? In what ways did your community contribute to the final product you presented to the instructor?

  • How has learning that "writing is a social activity" changed the way you think about yourself as a writer? How has this learning changed specific parts of your actual writing process?

  •  How did completing this project help you to gain a deeper understanding of the topic and/or yourself? How did you use the different voices that you identified?  And how is authority constructed? Sources? Misinformation? Argumentation? Evidence that voices use? reliability? Why would you go to one platform over another? How did you select specific sources and decide which information to use?

  • When people write, they attempt to meet the needs of a specific audience. As you researched information from different platforms, could you determine the intended audience? If so, how and why do you think the authors chose those audiences?

  • Did this project make you a more reflective, mindful, self-aware and thoughtful writer? If so, how?  How did completing this project help you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself? Share specific evidence from your experiences to show how you've come to know yourself more deeply through your writing and research.

  • How has learning that "writing creates knowledge" changed the way that you think about yourself as a writer? How has this learning changed specific parts of your writing process? How did your research and writing help you gain a deeper, more complex understanding of your chosen topic?

CRITERIA: The response essay will be correctly formatted and will address the above questions in a comprehensive manner.
